ABOUT

Modern Archive Films is an emerging independent production company based in Glasgow, Scotland. Our distinctive blend of Scottish cinema will capture the magic, absurdity and richness of everyday life, balancing commercial viability with authentic artistic vision. We want to support carefully crafted work led by imaginative, instinctive filmmakers who aren't afraid to resist convention — relatable, personal, expressive cinema that people can see themselves in.

We aim to build a company with a global outlook — one that is confident about its Scottishness while embracing stories with international appeal. Open-minded, we welcome potential collaborations of all kinds, so long as it stirs something in us.

If it's good, it's good!

IN PRE-PRODUCTION

We’re thrilled to announce our upcoming production Baws (working title).

Written & Directed by the talented Kevin Pickering and produced in association with Restless Natives Studios/111 Films, Baws is a violent, genre-bending dark comedy that follows Fraser, a retired hardman who deals with his testicular cancer diagnosis by rampaging through the Edinburgh underworld in search of his stolen sunglasses.

Filming soon, we are hard at work bringing this gritty, action-packed, fight-filled spectacle to life!

Stay tuned for further updates…

IN DEVELOPMENT

We have an exciting slate of films in development. Most notably…

Fur Sadie — a feature-length period drama based on the book by Archie Hind.

Set in the early 1970s of Glasgow's east end, Fur Sadie follows a musically gifted woman who seeks freedom from the social confines of class and gender by pursuing her childhood dream of playing piano. Not a pursuit for a dutiful housewife and mother? Well, Sadie Anderson says otherwise!

Supported by Screen Scotland/BFI NETWORK through the First Features development programme, written for the screen and directed by Olivia J. Middleton; and co-produced with Wendy Griffin of Selkie Productions.
