ABOUT

Modern Archive Films is an emerging independent production company based in Glasgow, Scotland. We're interested in telling stories that capture the magic, absurdity and richness of everyday life, with a particular focus on comedy and drama. Our distinctive blend of Scottish cinema will balance commercial viability with authentic artistic vision, producing carefully crafted work led by imaginative, instinctive filmmakers who aren't afraid to resist convention; who play and experiment with the art form — poetic, personal, expressive cinema that is as pleasing to the eye as it is to the heart.

We aim to build a company with a global outlook — one that is confident about its Scottishness while embracing stories with international appeal. Open-minded, we welcome potential collaborations of all kinds, so long as it stirs something in us. If it's good, it's good!

IN DEVELOPMENT

We're developing an exciting slate of films. Most notably…

Fur Sadie — a feature-length period drama based on the book by Archie Hind.

Set in the early 1970s of Glasgow's east end, Fur Sadie follows a musically gifted woman who seeks freedom from the narrow confines of class and gender by pursuing her childhood dream of playing piano. Not a pursuit for a dutiful housewife and mother? Well, Sadie Anderson says otherwise!

Link to book

Supported by Screen Scotland/BFI NETWORK through the First Features development programme, written for the screen and directed by Olivia J. Middleton; and co-produced with Wendy Griffin of Selkie Productions.
